Peachtree City Garden Club Program Schedule for September, 2011 – May, 2012

September 15: “Garden Junk” – Carolyn Wood of Carolyn’s Earth Art who sells her one-of-a-
kind garden pieces at Country Home Furnishing in Cataula, Georgia, will speak on creating
garden art from vintage items. She will have some of her work for sale after the meeting.

October 20: “Bees” – Jerry Edwards, owner of Castle Rock Honey, a provider of local raw
unfiltered honey, will speak on the importance of bees, tending bees and the decline of bees in our environment. Jerry is a vendor at the Peachtree City Farmers Market and features specialty honey from his hives in Washington, Georgia and the Appalachian mountains.

November 17: “The Language of Herbs” – Paula Johnson, a member of the Peachtree City
Garden Club and an herb expert will speak about growing, cooking and making gifts using
herbs.

 December 15: “The Winter Garden” – Bob and Janine Fant of Senoia Garden Center will talk
about plants to enhance the winter garden. This is our holiday brunch and will begin at 11:00
a.m. Members are asked to sign up to bring a dish to share and guests can attend for $5. 

January 19, 2012: “Organic Gardening” – Mike Cunningham of Country Gardens Farm in
Newnan will speak on organic gardening methods and “green” products for your ornamentals
and vegetable garden.

February 16: “Growing Fruit” – Darlene and Janet Ison of Ison’s Nursery in Brooks will speak on easy ways to grow fruit and make suggestions on the best varieties to grow for the local
homeowner. Ison’s Nursery is 40-acres of vineyards and offers over 200 varieties of fruit, nut
and berry plants.

March 15: “Floral Arranging” – Interior Designer, Anna Marie Hendry, will share simple
techniques to enhance your floral arranging skills and showcase how to use greenery from your own garden.

April 19: Field Trip to Smith-Gilbert Gardens in Kennesaw. This 16-acre garden has over 3,000 plants including a large bonsai collection, 97 varieties of roses, 86 confers and lots of annuals
and sculpture.

May 17: “Enchanted Gardening – Shaping Topiaries” – Joan Carroll, a garden club member and master gardener will speak on creating simple and charming topiaries to enhance your garden space. At the end of the meeting the club will host its annual plant swap.
